How to make the most of upcoming dates in the calendar

5 key dates for your marketing calendar

We’ve written before about the effectiveness of basing campaigns around ‘notable dates, events, or occasions’ on the calendar.

Seasonal or awareness day-based marketing is a great chance to join the conversation on social media. Content that is current and resonates with readers is more likely to be shared, especially if you use the campaign hashtags to help it surface. This, in turn, enhances the perceived relevance of what your business has to offer and gives you the opportunity to align your business with a cause or celebration.

As we look ahead to the second quarter of the year, here are 5 upcoming celebrations and awareness days for your marketing calendar. Keep reading to the end, where we share our tips on how to make the most of trend or seasonal-based marketing.

Key dates in the coming months …

  • 1st April – April Fools Day
  • 21st April – Easter Sunday
  • 23rd April – World Book Night
  • 4th May – Star Wars Day
  • 13th-19th May – Learning at Work Week
  • 16th June – Father’s Day

How to make the most of trending or seasonal events in your marketing calendar

  • Seasonal discounts
  • Themed header on website
  • Blog
  • Themed email campaign
  • Download – mini guide, printable, activity

Simplicity itself

It may be as simple as offering seasonal discounts, or marking these events with a themed header on your website or a well-timed blog. It could provide the pretext to a short email wishing your customers the season’s greetings, whilst keeping them informed of your company’s news.

Better still, link what’s coming up with what you have to offer. How can your business play its part? How can you help your customers in the run-up to the season’s challenges ahead?

Final thoughts

Starting early is essential if you want to capitalise on key dates in the calendar. In relation to Valentine’s Day, we advised:
‘Even a relatively small campaign can take as long as two to three months to plan and implement. For a launch on 7th February (one week before Valentine’s Day) that means investing hours of work each month from November onwards to meet your deadline.’
